Ibis at Walden Creek
White Ibis at Walden Creek, a tidal creek on the west side of the Cape Fear River. A large portion of the nation’s White Ibis population gathers at the islands in the Cape Fear River each May.
The marshland around Walden Creek and the Cape Fear River islands are the home of the largest population of ground-nesting colonial waterbirds in North Carolina. Birds found here include the gull-billed tern, snowy egret, tricolored heron, black skimmer, and brown pelican.
