There are many different types of yoga, and some may be better suited for you than others. If you’re not sure where to start, try a few different styles and teachers before settling on one. It’s also important to remember that every class will be a little bit different, even if it is technically the same style.

These might be strength and flexibility, physical energy and breath, or the mind and body. This category of yoga includes postures (asana) and breathing practices but doesn’t usually put them together into a flowing sequence.

Ashtanga yoga is a vigorous form of yoga that moves through a set sequence of poses. It’s often taught in Mysore-style classes, where the teacher guides each student individually based on their level of experience.
